Do Herbal Medicines act quickly?

Hi Ayurveda and Herbal Enthusiasts

Generally this question is asked by the people who come into contact with herbal medicine or any natural healing therapies for the first time. It is one of the FAQ’s about herbal medicines or therapies or Ayurvedic herbs.

one of the reasons people probably ask this question is due to the fact that they have to pay for the medicine/remedies. second reason could be that many people do not want to take these remedies for long time as they are not very familiar with herbs.

The issue I am starting to have with this question is that we are by default comparing herbal medicines to allopathic drugs. We are trying to find how quickly it can cure a particular health condition.

Is that what we really should be asking? Should we not really be concerned about the efficacy of herbal medicines in treating a patient?

I would like to rephrase this question and ask, “Do Herbal Medicines act effectively?”

The whole paradigm of Herbal Medicine or Ayurveda or any other natural healthcare system is based on the concept of treating the rootcause of any health issue. This will take different time in different patients, depending upon the severity of their condition and the length of their condition along with lot of other factors. When we consider all the factors and look at the efficacy of herbal medicines these actually take less time as compared to modern drugs. So overall herbal medicines will be a better investment in your health because it will reduce the recurrence of any condition. Not only that herbal medicine will save you time and money overall by cutting down the repeat prescriptions and the cost and time out of your work and family.

So next time you want to try herbs or herbal medicine, make sure you ask about its efficacy in treating you as a person.

till next time

warm Ayurvedic wishes
